This short video provides viewers with an overview and short summary of Turbidity Standards. This video briefly describes the purpose and importance of Turbidity Standards in water and wastewater along with other applications.
Turbidity is a test of drinking water, both raw and treated. It is a regularly performed test, but sometimes poorly understood. Not only is turbidity a key indicator of water quality, but it can also be used as a key determinant of chemicals used to reduce suspended solids in water.
Apart from turbidity being important in several aspects of water and wastewater, such measurement has an application in fermentation, many aspects of food and beverage processing and quality control, applications in electroplating, pulp and paper processing and measurement of cations including Iron indirectly in geothermal power plants.
Using good Standards and Reference materials the analyst will provide traceability, demonstrate the accuracy of results, calibrate the equipment and methodology, monitor the user performance, validate the test and facilitate comparability.
Presently, there are only 3 types of Standards recognised and approved by USEPA, Standard Methods, ASTM and other regulatory agencies. These standards are formazin, derived standards and suspended polymer microspheres, these latter two being the main offering from Reagecon although if requested, Reagecon can produce Formazin Turbidity Standards.
